I’ve booked my trip with Brittany Ferries in September. Outward Portsmouth to St Malo; return Caen to Portsmouth.
I had to renew my Property Owners Travel Club membership for £55 but even for one trip by car a year it’s still worthwhile.
I’m travelling out (15th September) and return (30th September) for £335 with decent cabins and meals included.
The journey from St Malo is really easy, nearly all on autoroutes and dual carriageways and takes about 6 hours.
The journey from or to Caen is a bit more of a challenge (specially when you break down like I did last year!) and takes about 8 hours.
Having made numerous journeys by car I’d still recommend it. Having your own car at the house is OK but not essential but there is a big benefit in not having the restrictions on what you can take on the plane, particularly wine!!
