1. Chateau Laulerie is the vineyard run by brother and sister Serge and Catherine Dubard and is well worth a visit.

   It’s located on the road towards Ste Foy just about half a kilometre south of St Meard – you’ll see the sign on the left hand side.

   Take the road to St Meard and at the junction (Pressoir opposite) turn right. Go through the slow bit where they’ve put in the 30km/hr area and go to the bottom of the hill.

   After you’ve taken the left turn, go past the first turn into their place and take the second turn where you’ll see a white gravel path which leads into a courtyard. Ring the bell and someone will come to see you – there’s no need to make an appointment.

   You’ll probably be taken to a tasting room on the far side up some stairs. The wine is really good value and if you’re flying you can get them to send it to you – here’s a link with further information:

2. SATURDAY MORNINGS (and other markets!)

   If you’re at the house at the weekend and you’re up very early on Saturday (I know this won’t apply to everyone!) then a visit to a French market is a must!

   If you’re really early then Bergerac is the top option. Take the road to St Meard and continue across rather than going to Ste Foy because it will be much quicker on the back road and it’s much easier to find a parking space because you don’t have to go through the centre of Bergerac.

   The market is located all around the cathedral (I think it’s a cathedral?? – anyway it’s the one with the very tall spire) above the old town.

   If you’re in Bergerac for the day then after visiting the market a wander down to the old town is necessary! L’Imparfait is is my view the best restaurant and good value for lunch and there are lots of others which will suit, whether you want a quiet lunch with local delicacies or a practical lunch because you have the children with you.

3. THE LOCAL SUPERMARKET!

   The new Intermarche in Montpon is miles better than than the old one which is now a bricomarche.

   Much like the Leclerc on the roundabout when you’re driving from the airport, the new hypermarche has shops in the entrance including perfume, clothes, hairdressing, dry cleaning etc.
