Aubeterre sur Dronne is on the route of Santiago de Compostella and is recognised officially as one of “les plus beaux villages de France“.

The monolithic church of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, in the Charente region of south-west France, has to be one of the most beautiful and unusual churches in the world. Dating from the 12th century, it is carved into a chalk cliff and is the biggest underground church in France…The centre of the village…is full of rustic charm with steeply sloping cobbled streets.
